Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 7, 2026
WineMe ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.
Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly, including:
- Account information — your name, email address, and age confirmation. A phone number is optional and no feature in the app currently uses it; you can create and use an account without one, and you can remove it at any time in Settings
- Photos you capture through our wine label and menu scanning features, and photos you attach to a rating
- Wine ratings, tasting notes, and reviews you create
- Cellar and wishlist selections
- Wines you add to your cart, and a record of when you ask about delivery for a wine — we log the wine's name. Wine delivery is not available yet: WineMe does not sell wine, process orders, or send you to a retail site, so there is no purchase for us to see
- Taste preferences and palate profile data
- Purchase history for subscriptions — which plan you are on, and when it renewed or was cancelled. Your payment card is handled entirely by Apple and is never seen by or sent to WineMe
- A device token, if you turn on push notifications, so we can deliver them
- Usage data such as features accessed, scans performed, and sommelier conversations
Photos you attach to a rating, and the photos you take to scan a label or a menu, are re-encoded on your device before they are uploaded, which strips embedded metadata — including GPS coordinates. A profile photo you pick from your library is uploaded as-is and may still carry the metadata your camera wrote into it. WineMe never asks your device for your location and has no location permission.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide personalized wine recommendations based on your taste profile
- Power AI-driven wine analysis from label and menu scans
- Calculate palate match scores between you and wines or other users
- Enable social features such as friends, dinner tables, and shared ratings
- Deliver your subscription and confirm which features your plan includes
- Keep the community safe — screening photos and text for prohibited content, and reviewing reports
- Measure demand for wine delivery and retail partnerships, so we know which bottles to work on making available
- Improve our services and develop new features
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate WineMe:
- Supabase for database storage, authentication, and hosting your profile photo
- Anthropic for AI-powered wine analysis, sommelier features, and automated photo safety screening
- Cloudflare for storing and delivering the photos you attach to a rating
- Apple and Google for social sign-in authentication
- Apple for in-app purchases, and RevenueCat for managing subscription status
Content Moderation and Safety
WineMe has social features, so some of what you create is visible to other people. Every photo you attach to a rating is scanned automatically before it becomes visible to anyone, and display names, usernames, and tasting notes are screened for prohibited language when you submit them. If you report a profile, rating, or photo, we store the report — what was reported, why, and by whom — so our team can review it and act on it within 24 hours. If you block someone, we store that too, so we can keep the two of you apart. Reports and blocks are not shown to the person you reported or blocked. Our full content policy is in our Terms of Service.
Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law. Two narrow exceptions: content that is under moderation review, or that has already been actioned for a violation, is retained so the review cannot be defeated by deleting the evidence; and material we are legally obligated to preserve and report — in particular any suspected child sexual abuse material — is preserved for as long as the law requires, and is never visible to another user.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, by emailing [email protected]
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data (your name, username, photo, and profile details are editable from your profile)
- Delete your data and your account (available in Settings)
- Export your wine ratings and tasting notes
- Turn push notifications off at any time, in Settings or in your device settings
Children's Privacy
WineMe is intended for users who are 21 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 21. If we learn that we have collected information from a user under 21, we will promptly delete that information.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy within the app and updating the "Last updated" date above.
